Hanging fishes are hand made unique souvenir from the island of Hvar. I have chosen fishes not only because we are a seaside destination, but because fishes are really important for Hvar and people on the island.

From the earliest times, fishing has been the foundation of Hvar’s life. The abundance of small blue fish, especially sardines, was, along with grapes and olives, the most importantly of Hvar’s economy and socio-cultural development. Economically, culturally and symbolically, the most important place undoubtedly belongs to the sardine (Sardina pilchardus) whose ancient salting tradition has survived to the present day.

For hanging fishes I have used red clay, jute rope, wooden beads and colours. After cutting the fishes clay needs to dry well and later painted and glazed.

It comes nicely packed in cardboard box with window – natural style. In each box with a fish there is a note. It is small and easy to pack in your luggage or just sent directly to your home, family or friends.

There are two types of fishes you can chose:

• Sardine – A blue marine fish with undoubtedly the most important place in Hvar traditional life whose ancient salting tradition has survived to the present day. Colour: Aquamarine, Silver, Pewter & Turquoise.
• Sea bream (Dorade) – A white marine fish, for many the queen of the Adriatic Sea and marine fishing. It is considered a prized catch due to its delicious flesh and has a special reputation among sea fishermen.                  Colour: Aquamarine, Rose Gold & Turquoise.

Sardine is in size: 12,5 cm x 3,2 cm and comes in a box size: 16,5 cm x 10,5 cm x 4 cm.

HANGING SEA BREAM (DORADE)

Sea bream (Dorade) is in size: 8,5 cm x 8,2 cm and comes in a box size: 11,7 cm x 10,4 cm x 2,4 cm.
